Transfer Credits

Bringing in Transfer Credits at the time of applying to the BLS degree

A complete BLS application should include official transcripts for all college-level courses taken prior to applying to the BLS program. Admitted students will receive a letter shortly after they have been admitted, confirming the courses and credits transferred toward the degree. These credits will appear on the Wesleyan transcript as transfer credit.

Transferring courses from other colleges and universities taken AFTER starting your BLS degree

BLS students are welcome to take classes for credit, both in the US and abroad, and transfer those courses toward their BLS degree. All plans to take non-Wesleyan courses for credit after having been admitted to the BLS program should be discussed with Glenn Knight (gknight01@wesleyan.edu) in the Office of Continuing Studies.

Please note:

  • Transfer courses should be preapproved by the appropriate Wesleyan academic department; not all credits are accepted for transfer.
  • Check the course credit equivalencies prior to taking courses so that you understand how many credits you will be transferring in (for instance, a 3-credit course taken elsewhere may count as .75 Wesleyan credits).
  • You must have a minimum of 16 Wesleyan credits on your transcript to be eligible to graduate with a BLS degree

Study Abroad: BLS students are welcome to take classes at colleges and universities outside the US.

Due to the complexity of transferring credits, and the sign-offs required prior to enrollment, it is important for students to meet with the Associate Director of Admission and Student Services for Continuing Studies (Glenn Knight, gknight01@wesleyan.edu) as early as possible.

Please note:

  • BLS students may not participate in Wesleyan’s BA programs in Bologna, Madrid, and Paris. However, there are many colleges and universities in those cities, and in many other countries, that welcome international students.
  • The Office of Study Abroad website can provide information on the many programs abroad (https://www.wesleyan.edu/cgs/osa/Find%20a%20Program/index.html), but cannot process your application; you must apply independently.
  • When applying to an international university, you will be confirmed as a Wesleyan BLS student on leave. The Continuing Studies office is responsible for reporting whether or not you are in good standing.

To understand how study abroad fits into your BLS academic plan, please contact Glenn Knight in the office of Continuing Studies, at gknight01@wesleyan.edu.
