Funding Resources
There are a number of resources available to support funding for internships, to support research, independent initiative, or professional interests. Below are useful tools to search for funding through Wesleyan and off campus.
Grants and funding have specific eligibility requirements based on subject area, financial need, academic merit and more. Funding can be limited and not guaranteed and many of these grants have deadlines and required materials for submission.

- Funding at Wesleyan
Most grants and funding available on campus from the Gordon Career Center and Patricelli Center are now available through a searchable database where interested applicants can read about individual grants, scholarships, or fellowships. Information about eligibility, how to apply, and deadlines are all available through the application portal.
Do your research and utilize campus contacts. Talk to your faculty advisor or department chair about department allocated funds for internships and research. Examples of departmental funding include:
- Public Affairs Center | Offers the Davenport Study Grant for Sophomores and Juniors interested in academic study and independent research surrounding public affairs and public service.
- College of East Asian Studies | Posts information on funding sources specific to East Asian studies and languages.
- College of the Environment | Their internship funding is open to all students, not just those enrolled in COE.
- The Writing Certificate | Awards prizes for writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, and offers fellowships supporting summer projects, attendance at the Wesleyan Writers Conference, and graduate study.

Wesleyan University also provides access to SPIN, a searchable database for external funding. (hint: you have to be logged into WesPortal to access SPIN).

For those interested in studying abroad over the summer or independently, useful funding databases are:
- NAFSA: Association of International Educators has a resource that directs you to funding for work, internships, volunteer, research, and service-learning abroad.
- Diversity Abroad has a number of scholarships and grants to support international opportunities.
- Funding Available outside of Wesleyan
There are more opportunities available that offer funded experiences or allow applicants to propose projects, research, etc. Click here to learn about more opportunities.
Other useful databases to use for funding related to research include: National Endowment for the Humanities, National Institute of Health, and the National Science Foundation.
Also consider nonprofit, businesses, or community and civic-based organizations that might provide funding for internships through grants or scholarships. There are also independent organizations, like the Open Society Foundations, that have grants available to individuals and groups.
