Faculty Opportunities

We encourage all Wesleyan faculty members to apply for a year-long (two semester) Faculty Fellowship in the Think Tank of the College of the Environment.  Faculty Fellows spend their time pursuing an original research project that coincides with the Think Tank theme for the year. It is expected that a Faculty Fellow will complete at least one scholarly work in their discipline during the fellowship.  The scholarly work may take a variety of forms based upon disciplines and may include a performance, artwork, etc. Faculty Fellows will also attend and co-teach one semester of the senior colloquium as well as teach one course that is relevant to their research project and the Think Tank theme.  Fellows are also expected to attend the Schumann seminar series as well as the annual Where On Earth Are We Going Symposium and the Earth Day Keynote Address. In addition, Faculty Fellows are required to meet weekly to discuss the theme and their research. Faculty Fellows are provided with an office, and teach only one course per semester during their residence in the College of the Environment.

Please note that Faculty Fellows are expected to spend the majority of their time in residence at the College of the Environment. We are deeply committed to facilitating our Faculty Fellows research needs and expect a reciprocal commitment. Your application serves as affirmation that you understand and agree to this commitment.

Finally, department chairs are required to countersign Fellow applications to ensure that the department’s or program’s teaching needs can be met.  Departments or programs may apply for up to two replacement appointments for a faculty fellow dependent upon the teaching load of the fellow.

Selection of the faculty fellows is made by the Governing Board of the College of the Environment.  The formal appointment of fellowship is made by the Provost.
