International Student Orientation Intern

An International Student Orientation (ISO) Intern assists the Office of International Student Affairs (OISA) in welcoming first-year international undergraduate students to Wesleyan University. The ISO Intern plays an integral role in shaping a positive orientation experience and preparing new international students to achieve a successful beginning to their Wesleyan career. This position is open to domestic and international students. You must have a passion for intercultural learning and a desire to help international students adjust to life on campus and in Middletown, Connecticut.

Responsibilities: 

  • Attend required spring coordinators training in April 
  • Meet weekly with OISA staff during the summer to manage ISO logistics
  • Oversee the International Buddy Program in the summer
  • Take lead on major components of ISO operations, such as organizing activities, scheduling ISO sessions, managing ISO communications to new students, and conducting components of the Orientation Leader (OL) training
  • Keep accurate records of all ISO planning and event notes
  • Attend debrief meetings after ISO
  • Assist with ISO program and learning outcome evaluation data analysis in September

Required Qualifications:

  • Students who will be returning to Wesleyan in the Fall of 2021 
  • Good academic standing
  • Good judicial standing 
  • Ability to proactively solve problems and take initiative to assist professional staff to maintain the quality of the orientation program 
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Excellent leadership, communication, time management, and listening skills
  • Good self-awareness and willingness to learn and improve throughout the orientation planning process
  • Ability to exhibit grace under pressure and to stay calm during emergencies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior leadership experiences related to international education and intercultural communication
  • Experience in creating and editing videos
  • Proficiency in more than one language
  • Experience living in another culture

Terms and Benefits:

Period of Internship*: March 15 - October 1, 2021

Hours Per Week: 

  • March 15 through May 31: 6 hours per week. 
  • June 1 through the end of Orientation: 35 hours a week.
  • Once classes begin to October 1: 4-6 hours a week.

Compensation: $13 per hour plus on campus housing beginning July 1, 2021*

*Interns have the option to work remotely from the end of classes in May through June. If you require housing in May / June, please indicate this in the Google application.
