January 2023

Dear Parents and Families of Students in the Class of 2024:

My name is William (Bill) Bisese, and I joined Wesleyan this month as the new dean for the class of 2024. While only here a short while, I am already excited to meet your students and welcome them back to campus after a long winter break. Before I cover anything else, I wanted to be sure to remind you of some important dates coming up as the spring semester begins: Housing opens at 9:00 a.m. for returning students on Monday, January 23 and classes begin on Thursday, January 26. There are several other important dates and processes to consider in these next few months including Spring Break (3/11 - 3/26) and housing selection.

The spring of junior year is truly a wonderful time for students to find their academic home and delve into the requirements of their major, plan for meaningful summer activities, study abroad when possible, and start thinking about the senior year. For example, your student should consider whether they’ll pursue an honors thesis next year, as this semester is a good time to line up an advisor and pursue funding, particularly if they want to conduct research over the summer. Students should also consider whether they want to pursue the per credit option, which allows students who have completed all of their other degree requirements to take only the second half of their thesis course in their last semester.

You might also encourage your student to begin thinking about their post-college plans, as they want to apply to the BA/Ma program or fellowships. All of these opportunities require solid planning, so it’s never too early to begin putting things into place, whether by talking with their advisor, the Gordon Career Center staff members, or me.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I am so excited to be of service to Wesleyan and your students.

Sincerely,

Bill Bisese
