Clean Your Clothes Sustainably
- Washing Tips
- Empty your pockets.
- Don't overfill the washer or your clothes won't get clean (they need room to move around).
- Less is more - use only one pod/strip or as directed by the package (about 1 tablespoon of liquid detergent). More detergent won't get your clothes more clean, it will just increase the chance of the washer breaking.
- Try laundry detergent strips from Generation Conscious. Genco provides free laundry detergent sheets for all students on campus from dispensing machines in Usdan basement and High Rise laundry. Sheets are also provided at the Resource Center and WesThrift (284 High).
- Generation Conscious is a BIPOC company created to address hygiene insecurity, and provides zero-waste/plastic-free alternatives to liquid laundry detergent. Genco works with multiple colleges across the country, including Wesleyan. Genco hires students at $20/hr to manage the effectiveness and growth of the campus partnership. Genco predominantly hires first generation, low-income, and students of color as these are the communities that typically bare the burden of plastic waste and pollution

- Drying Tips
- Try a drying rack - available in all dorms or rentable (for free) via WesThrift Free Store
- If you do need to use a dryer, wash on the lowest temperature setting to conserve energy
- Less is more - don't overfill or your clothes won't dry
