Other Financing Options

There are several ways to meet the family contribution.  Wesleyan offers a monthly payment plan to provide families with more flexibility in meeting their contribution.  Additionally, many Wesleyan students receive outside scholarships or grants in recognition of their achievements.

Outside Scholarship(s), State Grant or Employee Tuition Benefits

Each year, many Wesleyan students receive outside scholarships or grants in recognition of their outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements. Students are encouraged to seek outside scholarships, as they are a great way to reduce or cancel the “self-help” portion of a financial aid package.

At Wesleyan, our policy is to use outside scholarships to reduce or replace a loan and/or work study expectation (i.e. the “self-help”) portion of a student’s financial aid package. Outside scholarships greater than these amounts will be used to reduce or replace a student’s summer earnings expectation. If an outside scholarship is in excess of the above, a student may request that the scholarship be applied toward the cost of the university-sponsored health insurance plan (if applicable), or the outside scholarship can be used towards a one-time computer or laptop purchase of up to $1,500. If a student is interested in this option, please contact the Financial Aid Office prior to this purchase. Documentation of the purchase is required.

If outside scholarships exceed the amounts of the above items, Wesleyan scholarship will be adjusted dollar-for-dollar to ensure that a students’ total aid does not exceed the Cost of Attendance. An outside scholarship will not reduce or replace the Parent Contribution.

State scholarships and grants received will reduce Wesleyan Scholarship dollar-for-dollar.

*If an outside scholarship replaces work-study in your financial aid award, you may find employment even if you are no longer eligible.  If you wish to work on campus, review the employment opportunities available in the Handshake system.

  • Tuition Remission Policy

Wesleyan’s Tuition Remission policy follows that of our Outside Scholarship. If a parent receives tuition remission benefits from their employer, the self-help portion of the student’s financial aid package will be reduced or replaced. Tuition remission benefits greater than these amounts will be used to reduce or replace a student's summer earning expectation.  If the tuition remission benefit is in excess of the above, the Wesleyan scholarship will be adjusted dollar-for-dollar to ensure that the student’s total aid does not exceed the Cost of Attendance. Tuition Remission benefits will not reduce or replace the Parent Contribution.

    • An outside scholarship will not reduce or replace the Parent Contribution.

    • If you have been awarded scholarships that are not renewable from year to year it is sometimes possible to defer a scholarship to a future year to prevent a situation where your Wesleyan grant would otherwise be reduced.  Arrangements for this would need to be made through the donor of the scholarship to send the funds in another academic year.

The Monthly Payment Plan (MPP)

Payment Plan Enrollment & Management

Wesleyan's Monthly Payment Plan provides parents and students the option to pay tuition & fee expenses monthly. It is designed to relieve the pressure of lump-sum payments by allowing families to spread payments over a period of months without incurring any interest charges. Enrollment is on a per term basis. The fall term plan opens July 1 and the spring term plan opens January 1. The cost to sign-up is $45 per term.

Depending on the date you enroll, you may be eligible for up to five installments for the fall and spring terms. Payment Plan installments will be automatically deducted on the 15th of each month from the bank account you specify when enrolling in the plan. Since you can enroll in a Payment Plan before the term charges (tuition and fees, residential comp. fee, health insurance) are assessed, you may need to estimate your Payment Plan balance in the initial months. View Tuition and Fees.

Wesleyan University does not accept credit cards payments for undergraduate tuition & fees.

  • How to Enroll Into a Payment Plan

To enroll into a Payment Plan, log into your Student Account and select the Payment Plans tab. You will see the Payment Plan options available to you. The earlier you enroll in a plan, the more installments you can have. The fall term plan opens July 1 and the spring term plan opens January 1. Your installment schedule will update dynamically based on your plan balance. The plan balance initially defaults to your Balance Due. Since you can enroll in a Payment Plan before the term charges (tuition and fees, residential comp. fee, health insurance) are assessed, you may need to estimate your Payment Plan balance in the initial months. View tuition and fees. Once you decide to activate a plan, you will receive an email confirming your enrollment. Log into your Student Account any time to see the status of your plan.

Please visit the Student Accounts Office for additional information regarding the Monthly Payment Plan.
