Dear Wesleyan Parent(s) or Guardian(s):

May, 2023

Dear Wesleyan Parent(s) or Guardian(s):

The University REQUIRES all students to maintain health insurance that is comparable to the University-sponsored plan. To ensure universal coverage of all students (except students studying abroad or not on campus in the fall), students will be enrolled and charged up front the first week of July* for the annual school insurance plan. Students with private insurance should complete an online waiver form. Once approved, the charges will be reversed. Please complete the necessary ONLINE forms as soon as possible, even if your insurance has not changed since last year. Athletes must comply with this requirement even if they submitted insurance information to the Freeman Athletic Center.

International plans not based in the United States are NOT considered comparable coverage and students must stay enrolled in the school insurance.  Any out-of-state Medicaid plans and HMO plans that only cover emergency services are not comparable and students will need to be enrolled in the school plan. Students with out-of-state Medicaid plans providing only emergency services may be eligible to transfer insurance to the CT Husky Medicaid plan while at Wesleyan. Please go to https://portal.ct.gov/husky or call 855-626-6632 for more information (students should not pursue this option alone without confirming with a parent/guardian). You can also speak with a Health Center representative. To view details of the University plan underwritten by National Guardian Life insurance with Cigna as the Preferred Provider Network, please check the detailed FAQ handout at the website below. For insurance questions, call Gallagher Student Insurance at 800-499-5062.

You MUST do the following by August 15:

If you have comparable private insurance for your student and do not want the university-sponsored plan and associated charges, please show proof of insurance (waive) online at www.gallagherstudent.com/wesleyan. You will need to use the student Wesleyan email user/password to log in. Please remember to print a copy of the confirmation page and reference number you receive once you have waived online. Once approved, the charges of $2,661 will be reversed.

If you DO NOT have comparable private insurance, the STUDENT MUST REMAIN ENROLLED in the University-sponsored plan. Fall study-abroad students are never auto-enrolled and charged unless an enrollment form is filled out online.

Visits to the Health Center are free; however, limited incidental charges for in-house testing (e.g., rapid mono/strep, lab processing fee, medications) will be charged to the student account for students with private insurance. Students can print a claim statement to file with a private insurance plan. Routine laboratory tests sent to Quest will be billed directly from the vendor to insurance plans.

Students who need assistance covering the cost of the health insurance policy should contact the Financial Aid Office to determine what options (if any) may be available to them. Students who fail to complete a waiver by the deadline will need to file a petition to reverse any charges.

Charges Posted the first week in July for Annual Insurance Enrollment Fee               $2,661

Thank you for your prompt attention. Remember, proof of private insurance (waive) or online enrollment at www.gallagherstudent.com/wesleyan is required by August 15, 2023.

  • Any student who enrolls in the school insurance and under the age of 26 is covered for dental and vision care.  Please see page 13 and 14 of benefit highlight link below (please note: this brochure is the current plan for the 2022/23 academic year, but all the benefits are the same except pricing which is $2,661 for the 2023/24 academic year).  All students will also receive a separate email in late June with optional dental insurance.  Students who have private medical insurance may wish to consider a dental insurance plan if you do not already have one.
