Spring Insurance Requirements

Deadline: January 31, 2022

www.gallagherstudent.com/wesleyan

Date: DECEMBER 2021

Dear Wesleyan Parent(s) or Guardian(s):

The University REQUIRES all students to maintain health insurance that is comparable to the University-sponsored plan. If you do not have comparable insurance, you will need to enroll in the school sponsored plan.  Please complete the necessary ONLINE forms as soon as possible, even if your insurance has not changed since last year.  Athletes must comply with this requirement even if they submitted insurance information to the Freeman Athletic Center.

International plans not based in the United States are NOT considered comparable coverage and students must enroll in the school insurance.  Any out-of-state Medicaid plans and HMO plans that only cover emergency services are not comparable and students will need to be enrolled in the school plan. Students with out-of-state Medicaid plans providing only emergency services may be eligible to transfer insurance to the CT Husky Medicaid plan while at Wesleyan. Please go to www.ct.gov/hh or call 877-284-8759 for more information (students should confirm with a parent/guardian about this option before applying). You can also speak with a Health Center representative. To view details of the University plan underwritten by Wellfleet Commercial Casualty Insurance with Cigna as the Preferred Provider Network, please check the detailed FAQ handout at the website below. For insurance questions, call Gallagher Student Insurance at 800-499-5062.

You MUST do ONE of the following (waive or enroll ONLINE):

If you have comparable private insurance for your student and do not want the university-sponsored plan and associated charges, please show proof of insurance (waive) online at www.gallagherstudent.com/wesleyan. Please remember to print a copy of the confirmation page and reference number you receive once you have waived online.

If you DO NOT have comparable private insurance for your student, you MUST ENROLL ONLINE in the University-sponsored plan at www.gallagherstudent.com/wesleyan. Your student account will be billed $1,603 for the spring only insurance plan (1/1/22-8/11/22) in late February; please do not send payment now.  You will be enrolled and charged if you fail to comply by the deadline.

Visits to the Health Center are free; however, limited incidental charges for in-house testing (e.g., rapid mono/strep, lab processing fee) are charged via student accounts. Students can print a claim statement to file with a private insurance plan via the Health Center electronic medical record. Routine laboratory tests sent to Quest are billed directly from the vendor to insurance plans.

Students who need assistance covering the cost of the health insurance policy should contact the Financial Aid Office to determine what options (if any) may be available to them. Students who fail to complete a waiver by the deadline will need to file a petition in order to reverse any charges.
