Shopping Information

Malls

The City of Middletown does not have a mall, but there are several nearby towns that do. The following malls are nearby: WestFarms, Meriden Mall, and Connecticut Post Mall. Use Google maps to find out the best way to get there with public transportation.

Online Shopping

Online shopping is a convenient way to have things delivered that you may have a harder time locating while at Wes, including snacks from your home country or certain clothing items. You can have items delivered to your WesBox student mail box address at WesStation. It is important to pick up your package from WesStation within five days or it will be returned to sender.

If you are using Amazon, there are pick up lockers on Wesleyan’s campus. Amazon offers Amazon Prime to students. It is free for the first six months.

Seasonal Sales

There are seasons of the year when certain products are on sale. It is helpful to know this as you are making decisions to buy things. The first guideline is to buy things after the season finishes. For example, buy shorts in August or September. Retailers are trying to empty their stores to make room for Autumn clothing at that point.

  • Late August/Early September: Look for school supplies.

  • Black Friday/Cyber Monday: These days happen right after Thanksgiving (the 4th Thursday in November). Many things are on sale, but this is an especially good time to buy electronics

  • Small Business Saturday: The day after Black Friday, many small businesses offer specials to encourage people to shop locally and support their local economy. Downtown Middletown generally participates. An Internet search for “Small Business Saturday Middletown CT” should provide a list of stores.

  • The Christmas season (December): The biggest shopping time of the year in the U.S. Many stores have sales, but shop carefully since other things will be at full price.

The biggest sales of the year are between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Stores have to complete inventories before January 1st; the less they have to count, the easier the job is.

  • Other Holiday Sales: Many holidays have sales associated with them. Any time there is a holiday, it is a good idea to look for a sale. Memorial Day (late May), for example, you may see “White Sales.” Items on sale during this time include sheets and towels.
