Students Leaving Campus for Summer Break

For those who will be leaving campus during the break, please scroll down for important information about traveling, including information about COVID-19 testing and travel signatures. It is also important to review the Visa and Travel page before you travel.

COVID-19 Testing for International Travel

If you are traveling internationally and a COVID-19 test is required by the government of your destination country or by the airline, please verify the following information:
  • The type of test required (rapid molecular COVID test, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Test, blood antibody, etc.)
  • Whether the lab certification is required
  • The timing when a test needs to be completed (calendar days/hours prior to travel requirement as well as how the hours are counted)
If your COVID-19 test was done on campus, you can use the information below:

The Broad Institute
Clinical Research Sequencing Platform
320 Charles Street
Cambridge MA 02141

CLIA ID:  22D2055652 (Expiration: 5/13/2022)
If you need a copy of the Broad Institute's CLIA certification, please email healthforms@wesleyan.edu.

The test that is performed on campus is a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test (observed anterior nasal swab).

To avoid potential problems, please make sure that your name on the test result is exactly the same as your name listed on your passport. If you need to change your nickname to your passport name, log in to your Broad Institute log in page, click on “my account,” then click on “profile” on the left panel to update your name BEFORE you take your test.

If the on-campus testing schedule does not meet your needs to fulfil the travel requirements, you may visit the following places to get a COVID-19 test:

The Community Health Center of Middletown
657 Main Street, Middletown, CT 06457
The center offers PCR tests 7 days a week for free.

Walgreens COVID-19 Drive-thru
Visit the Contactless COVID-19 Testing page to find a location and type of test that meets the requirements. Walgreens offers PCR, rapid diagnostic test, and rapid antigen test. You must make an appointment in advance.

Airport Testing
You may also call the airport you are using. Here are the links to the COVID-19 testing pages for the airports frequently used by Wesleyan Students:

John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK): available Terminal 4
Boston Logan International Airport (BOS): available at Terminal E
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR): available at Terminal B

For JFK, BOS, and EWR airports, visit https://www.xprescheck.com/ to make an appointment prior to arriving for your COVID-19 test. Information about pricing can be found on this website. Please note that these are “out of pocket costs,” with more details available on that webpage.

For additional information about COVID-19 testing, you can always reach out to the embassy or consulate of your destination country. Also, review the page on Testing and International Air Travel on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.

Travel Signatures

Having a valid travel signature on your I-20 is extremely important for you as an F-1 visa student when returning to the United States from traveling internationally. This signature from your international student advisor confirms that you are maintaining status to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer that will be inspecting your I-20. Not having a valid travel signature is grounds for the officer not to grant you admission into the U.S. Travel signatures are valid for 12 months.

Students leaving campus after finals should drop off their I-20s no later than Friday, May 21, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. in order to receive a travel signature before leaving campus.

To receive a travel signature while on campus:

  • Submit a travel signature request via the ISS Portal
  • Fill out an envelope on top of the drop box in front of North College 023
  • Place your I-20 in the envelope and seal
  • Email oisa@weseleyan.edu to let us know that you have dropped off your I-20 for a travel signature
  • OISA will email you when your I-20 is ready to pick up at the Public Safety office
  • Provide your WesID to Public Safety when picking up your I-20

To request a travel signature from abroad:

  • Submit a travel signature request via the ISS Portal
  • Email oisa@wesleyan.edu to let us know if you would like an electronic I-20 (free, can be downloaded via
  • the ISS Portal) or if you would like to have a hard copy I-20 mailed to you.
  • If you would like to have a hard copy I-20 mailed to you, please purchase a shipping label via UEMS
  • When your shipping label is processed, OISA will have your I-20 sent to you
