Mission and Purpose

The Office for Equity & Inclusion (OEI) works to enhance the living and learning experience for all students, faculty, and staff at Wesleyan. Through programs, events, workshops, direct support, and other initiatives, we work to promote a healthy, thriving campus climate and a community of excellence predicated on respect for others. The Resource Center (The RC) is part of OEI, and we share this mission and purpose.

The RC seeks to support, empower, and engage all students at Wesleyan as they understand and celebrate both the identities they carry and also the identities carried by others in our campus community. The staff of The RC serve as a resource and connection hub by maintaining awareness of matters related to social identity and difference, and by collaborating with students and departments across the university to create an inclusive environment that promotes coalition building, knowledge sharing, collaborative advocacy, intersectionality appreciation, community development, and personal growth.

In this spirit, the themes engaged by the work of The RC include, but are not limited to: culture, socioeconomic status, race, neurodiversity, nationality, sexuality, disability status, ethnicity, body diversity, and gender. Much of our work involves the intersection of these themes and/or connection and conversation across the range of experiences within these themes, in order to create a Wesleyan community where all students are seen, heard, respected, and celebrated.
