Resource Center Programming
The Resource Center hosts many programs and events designed to celebrate students’ identities and backgrounds, to help students to understand one another, to support students throughout their time at Wesleyan, and to bring our community together. - First Things First Pre-Orientation (FTF)- A program that welcomes incoming first-generation low-income (FGLI) students as they transition to life and academics at Wesleyan. The program aims to build community and to empower students as they begin their college journey through discussions, activities, information-sharing, and more.
- SOC BBQ and Anhksgiving - These annual events open to all of campus celebrate the presence of students of color at Wesleyan. Features include cultural performances and art, cuisine from a range of culinary traditions, information about student affinity organizations, and more.
- Heritage/Awareness Months and Weeks - The Resource Center collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to fund, create, and implement programming related to the annual moments various identities and backgrounds are celebrated across the country. These include (but are not limited to!): Latinx History Month, Pride Month, Trans Day of Visibility, Black History Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander History Month, National First Generation Celebration Day.
- Towards Love and Care SOC Support Group (TLC Support Group)- This space centers the challenges, growth, and joy experienced by students of color at Wesleyan. Anyone who wishes to contribute to a supportive conversation on these themes is welcome.
- Environmental Justice Series- The Environmental Justice Series is a collaboration between The Resource Center and the Office of Sustainability to bring conversations and speakers to campus that highlight social issues related to the intersections of power, identity, sustainability, and the environment. Past speakers include Dr. Vandana Shiva, Mikaela Loach, and Greg Genco.
- You Belong Series - This series provides space to discuss the journeys of FGLI students, faculty, and staff. Anyone who wishes to contribute to a supportive conversation on these themes is welcome.
- Affording Study Abroad- This program, organized in collaboration with the Office of Study Abroad and the Office of Financial Aid, educates students about the funding support available for study abroad programs.
- Storytelling Series- This program series highlights faculty, staff, and students from a range of identities to share the learning, friendships, victories, and challenges they have encountered in their personal and professional journeys.
- Liminal Race Dialogues Series- This monthly program series provides a space for students who are interested in exploring their identities, the restrictions of identity boundaries, and what it means to question these identity boundaries.
