###### Cameron Donnay Hill

*Assistant Professor of Mathematics*My research lies at the intersection of geometric model theory and discrete mathematics. Model theory is the branch of mathematical logic with closest affinities to algebra and algebraic geometry, although applications in analysis are hardly uncommon. In the past, when I said “discrete mathe- matics,” I meant the study of finite combinatorial structures such as graphs, matroids, and designs – though now, I am prepared to include algebraic objects such as finite fields and groups. Ordinarily, first-order model theory has very little to say about finite structures, so in the past few years, my focus has been on identifying a priori coarse properties of whole classes of finite structures that allow one to transfer finer-grained properties of infinite limit structures back to members of the class. In the initial stages of this project, I have identified properties of classes (coherence, super-robustness) that allow for a relatively simple transfer. Going forward, one of my central goals is to establish subtler transfer principles1 that allow for a broader range of applications, and accordingly, I will need to identify the broad properties of a class that impel a given kind of transfer. Ideally, this approach will yield some applications in number theory and extremal combinatorics.
