About

Wesleyan University's Astronomy Department is focused on inquiry and insight, the “why” and “how” behind every aspect of our universe and beyond. Our programs of study blend coursework, research, and public outreach with access to world-class facilities that open doors to the wonders of astronomy.

We foster a collaborative and inclusive culture grounded in curiosity, discovery, and mutual support. Our department brings together passionate students, faculty, and researchers to create a space where everyone can belong, thrive, and grow. With an interdisciplinary approach and early research opportunities for undergraduates, as well as one of the only stand-alone Master of Arts programs in astronomy in the country, we’re committed to empowering each person on their academic and professional journey.

Our Community

At Wesleyan, we explore the universe together. Our community thrives on collaboration, discovery, and research. Faculty, staff, and students work side by side, whether analyzing data, leading Van Vleck Observatory events, or tackling big questions. We continually work to maintain an inclusive and equitable department where all individuals feel welcome and supported, and we maintain a commitment to each other at all levels of our community.
