Academic Advising
At Wesleyan, you have the freedom to shape your academic journey with expert guidance every step of the way. Your department chair serves as the academic advisor for astronomy students, helping with course selection, research opportunities, grants, and preparing for life after Wesleyan. Your research advisors and other faculty members are also available for mentorship and support.
Collaborative Research
Work closely with faculty on original research, using advanced telescopes and data analysis to better understand our place in the universe.
Teaching Assistant Opportunities
As a teaching assistant, you'll sharpen your skills and build strong connections with astronomy faculty and peers. A key requirement for MA students each semester, this role offers hands-on experience in grading assignments, leading office hours, supporting classroom activities, and facilitating exciting nighttime events at the Van Vleck Observatory—creating valuable opportunities for collaboration, growth, and networking.

Van Vleck Observatory
The Van Vleck Observatory isn’t just for research—it’s where students bring astronomy to life. By assisting with outreach events like Space Night and Kids' Night, you’ll share your passion with the local community, develop communication skills, gain practical experience with the observatory’s four telescopes, and get paid for your time. Plus, you'll have access to a state-of-the-art computer lab and library for research and coursework.
