Clicker Information for Students
(printer-friendly version of this page)
Students enrolled in courses using clickers must purchase a clicker ($50, charged to your student account) through the Cardinal Technology Center (located in the Usdan Student Center). Clickers can be sold back to the Technology Center at any time for a $20 credit back to your student account (no cash transactions). Damaged clickers will not eligible for a refund.
You may share a clicker with another student, provided that you are not enrolled in the same course.
Register Your Clicker for Each Class
Many, though not all, classes which use a clicker will require that you register it to link the unique clicker ID to your name. Once you have your clicker, you must register the clicker separately for each class that requests it. There are two possible ways this can occur, depending on the class:
Moodle Option: If the class is using Moodle, there will be a block placed inside the course page with the header "Turning Technologies". In this block, click "Manage my Device IDs". Select the Response Card option and enter the Device ID of your clicker, found beneath the bar code on the back. Click "Register", and your clicker will be connected to your account. All Moodle classes are linked for clickers; you only need register once per semester via Moodle for courses using clickers in this way.
Portfolio Option: Classes which are not using Moodle will have clicker registration occur via Portfolio. There will be a "Course Clicker Registration" link underneath the Course Registration area of your student portfolio; click this and proceed as above. You will need to register for each portfolio-based course individually.
For whatever reason, if you change clickers during the semester, you must update the registration information by following the instructions through again. Failure to do so will cause your clicks to be unrecorded.
Re-register Every Semester
Each new semester, you must re-register your clicker for any and all of your courses using clickers.
Clicker Maintenance
You are fully responsible for your clicker, including maintaining it in working condition. In the event that your battery dies, you may swap it with a fresh one for free at the Cardinal Technology Center in Usdan.
Changing the Channel
The clickers use channel 41 by default. However, because the range of the clickers is 200 ft., nearby classes in session simultaneously must use different frequencies. Your instructor will inform you if you need to change the channel. Remember that you will have to change it back to 41 for other courses, unless otherwise noted.
To change the channel used by your clicker, do the following:
- Click and hold the GO button for a few seconds, then release. You should see the light blinking red and yellow.
- Next, click the numbers for the new channel, for example, for channel 42, press 4 then 2.
- Click the GO button again and the light should then go to green. If the light is not green, the channel has not been changed.
