Admissions Requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent to be eligible for the certificate.

Distribution Requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Writing

As you progress through the certificate, you’ll build skills across genres and complete a substantial capstone that showcases your growth as a writer.

  • 3 writing courses
  • 1 foundational writing course in humanities (or an additional writing course)
  • 1 foundational writing course in science or the social sciences (or an additional
  • Capstone requirement:
    • Academic essay (research-focused) or
    • Creative work (fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, etc.)
    • Minimum of 30 pages of writing

Throughout your program, you’ll be guided by:
