Special GLS Fellowship  

For Faculty and Staff from TABS Member Schools

Wesleyan University announces a new program for educators at TABS member schools who pursue Wesleyan's MALS or MPhil degrees.

Over the past 70 years, thousands of education professionals have studied with Wesleyan’s world-class faculty, benefited from our exceptional facilities and flexible scheduling, and enjoyed the freedom to define their program of study as they earned their Master of Arts in Liberal Studies. Wesleyan is pleased and proud to continue this tradition, as a partner of The Association of Boarding Schools.

In recognition of this partnership, the Graduate Liberal Studies Program has established the GLS TABS Education Leadership Fellows Program.

2-COURSE EDUCATION LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATE

Special 2-course Education Leadership Certificate at no additional cost, available ONLY to Fellows. Students take the first of these non-credit courses on-campus in summer 1 of the fellowship, and the second course online during summer 2 of the fellowship. Students in their final courses during the first summer of this implementation may take Course 2 online prior to their graduation in May of the following year.

  • Summer 1: Students meet once a week on campus during the 5-week standard summer term, learning from Wesleyan faculty and invited guests in a small, seminar-style classroom. Topics will focus on subjects pertinent to a residential school community.
  • Summer 2: Students will participate asynchronously online in a course that builds on the work done in summer 1. Special topics will be selected by the cohort in the previous summer.
  • Additional programming and events will be offered for the Fellows each summer.

BENEFITS FOR NEW GLS STUDENTS:

  • Students are Fellows for 2 consecutive summer terms.
  • Summer Stipend $2,000 total ($1,000 per summer term).
  • Campus housing grant for 2 summer terms included (up to $1040 value each summer).
  • Special 2-course Education Leadership Certificate at no additional cost, available ONLY to Fellows. Students take the first of these non-credit courses on campus in summer 1 of the fellowship, and the second course online during summer 2 of the fellowship.
  • Students who have completed an MALS degree and who apply for an MPhil degree beginning in Summer 2025 will be eligible for the fellowship as if they were "new students."

 ELIGIBILITY:

  • GLS students must be employed full-time by a TABS member school.
  • GLS Students must be enrolled in 2 or more courses in the summer term(s) in which they participate.
  • Students must be matriculated degree candidates in the MALS or MPhil program. (deadline to apply for degree candidacy for Summer 2025: late March)
  • Students admitted to the non-degree Graduate Certificate in Writing only, and not also to a degree, are not eligible.

APPLY NOW! Here's how:

  1. Students who have already taken courses with GLS must contact Glenn Knight at gknight01@wesleyan.edu or 860-685-3345 for separate instructions on how to apply.
  2. New students: Apply for degree candidacy online at continue.wesleyan.edu/apply.
  3. On the Personal Information page of the application, under "Please choose the option that best suits you" select "TABS School Faculty or Staff."
  4. Once you have submitted your GLS application, you will be sent a form for the Fellowship application, which requires:
    1. a 200-word statement of purpose indicating why you are interested in the Educational Leadership Fellows Program, and how you would implement what you learn at Wesleyan on your campus.
    2.  the name and email address of your Dean of Faculty or Head of School, so that we may confirm your employment.
  5. The priority deadline for summer 2025 will be in late March. Recipients will be notified by late April that they have been awarded the fellowship pending enrollment for summer GLS courses. Registration opens at the beginning of May. We will continue to accept applicants on a rolling basis if there is space in the cohort.
  6. You will officially be a Fellow once you register and pay for 2 or more summer GLS courses. Your housing costs will be covered (up to $1,040), and your stipend (if applicable) will be paid at the end of July.
  7. Students must be registered and enrolled by late May, or their fellowship may go to someone on the waitlist.
  8. If your school pays your tuition, our office can work with you regarding timing of payment.
  9. Students may defer their fellowship award for one year.
