Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

The Chemistry Department offers two chemistry-focused pathways for completing the major:

  • Chemistry (A-track): Follows a traditional chemistry curriculum and is the broadest and most flexible of the two pathways. A-track majors interested in obtaining an ACS-certified chemistry degree should consult a chemistry major advisor as early as possible to ensure they can meet the ACS requirements within four years.
  • Chemical Biology (B-track): Bridges chemistry and biology with a chemistry-first approach to studying life at the molecular level. Chemical biologists use chemical tools and concepts to explore and manipulate biological systems in areas such as drug design, neuroscience, and biomaterials. Students interested in a biology-first approach to understanding the chemistry of living systems (e.g., DNA, proteins) are encouraged to explore the Molecular Biology & Biochemistry (MB&B) major.

Details for each pathway can be found through the links above. A direct comparison of the curricula for the two tracks is available here.
