Regulations Governing the Scheduling of Classes
Classes and laboratory sessions should be scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and in the evenings after 7:00 p.m. Classes will meet each week for three class periods of 50-minutes' duration, for two class periods of 80-minutes' duration, or for one class period corresponding as closely as possible to the standard time periods as described below. Departments and programs should spread each group of conventionally scheduled classes evenly throughout the available time slots.
Classes that meet three times weekly may meet only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday conforming to the times listed below:
Classes that meet twice weekly in the morning may meet in 80 minute periods on any two mornings combining Monday, Wednesday or Friday (MW, MF, or WF) from 8:30 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m., or on Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Twice weekly afternoon classes may meet on any two afternoons combining Monday, Wednesday or Friday (MW, MF, or WF), or Tuesday and Thursday for two 80 minute periods beginning at 1:10 p.m. or 2:40 p.m.
Courses that meet once weekly for up to three hours per meeting should be spread throughout the five time slots between the hours of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. In addition, courses meeting one day a week may meet after 7 p.m. in the evening on a voluntary basis. Classes meeting for one class period weekly may meet during afternoon or evening hours only and must correspond as closely as possible to the standard time blocks so as to minimize conflict with other classes.

These regulations are set by the Education Policy Committee and monitored by the Registrar's Office. Proposed exceptions to these rules must be sent to the Registrar's Office for review by the Academic Deans.
